  1. Find Duplicate Files

  3. Duplicate files are one of the true wastes of disk space. But the large number of files and folders many of us have on our disks makes it pretty much impossible to get a handle on the problem without a helping hand.
  4.   File Buddy has a lot of helping hands, and now a couple of them help with duplicate files. They are the Find Duplicate Files... command in the Cleaning menu and the Mark Duplicates... command in the List menu.

  6.   The Find Duplicate Files... command will scan selected disks for all visible files, and compare them according to the criteria you select from Name, Modified and Creation dates, Size, Creator, and File Type. In order to keep the amount of additional code necessary to provide this ability and that described in Mark Duplicates, the following sequence of events takes place when the process is underway.
  7. All files found are displayed in the file list window.
  8. They are sorted once for each criteria specified. (So the more criteria specified, the longer the process takes.)
  9. They are then compared to determine which are duplicates.
  10. Once the duplicates are identified, their icons are replaced by group numbers and the list is sorted by icon so that duplicate files appear together. All files with the same number were found to be duplicates. Files without duplicate matches are then removed from the list.
